Saturday Competition

Competition is held every Saturday morning, including most school holidays, at Findon High School Oval, Drummond Ave, Findon. A warm-up for all athletes is held at 8:45am sharp. Most events finish by 11:30 at the latest with younger age groups finishing earlier.

The format of each meet is as follows:

  • Athletes arrive and sign in
  • Warm up from 8:45am
  • Club President talks to parents to pass on any important information or to remind athletes of up and coming events at SA Athletics Stadium
  • Call out for any volunteers needed for the day
  • Events start from 9am as per the weekly program
  • Tiny Tots head to their location and the Under 6’s and 7’s head to the On Track program location.
  • Events finish earlier for younger athletes, approximately 10am.
  • All events finish by 11:30pm
  • Food is available for purchase from our canteen and BBQ.

Facilities

Findon High School oval caters for all our events. There is an amenities block equipment storage, toilets and our Canteen. Water is available and trees around the oval provides some shade.  The Canteen sells drinks, ice blocks, confectionery, light snacks and runs a BBQ, with all proceeds going back to the centre.  The canteen & BBQ are run by volunteers, so parents are asked to assist if they can.

 

Weather Policy

To protect our Little Athletes from extreme weather conditions, we have adopted a Weather Policy that dictates a modified programme or a meet cancellation. For wet weather or temperature forecasts between 36 & 39 Degrees we may operate a modified programme. For temperature forecasts of 40 Degrees and above the program will be cancelled.  Events may be varied or altered at meets depending upon prevailing weather conditions.

Forecasts are taken from the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology website & announcements on the Friday 6pm News. Cancellations will then be posted on the website based on the forecast temperature and email communications will be sent wherever possible. Notices will also be posted at the oval by 8am.

Uniform

The Woodville Little Athletics Centre uniform was updated three seasons ago and includes an orange polo shirt, with white and black features on the front & back, with a black trim to collar, black shorts and broad brimmed hat. Polo shirts and hats are available for purchase from the Centre.  WLAC practice a safe sun policy, so all children are encouraged to wear some kind of sun hat as well as appropriate sun block to all Saturday meets.

Please note that the changeover period from the old uniform has finished, so all athletes will have to wear the current designed uniform.

Black shorts or sports briefs can be worn but these must be above the knee and without any other colour trim. The use of two-way stretch material for shorts or briefs is permitted.

Athletes must wear the NEW Centre uniform at each home or away meeting (C&Ts and tiny tots excepted). Athletes not in uniform can risk loss of points for events/disqualification.

The wearing of footwear is compulsory for WLAC meetings and Association Rules also specify that footwear be worn at all Championship meetings.  Under 12 to Under 17 athletes may wear spiked footwear for laned events, jumps and javelin. Spikes must be no longer than 7mm. When competing at Santos Stadium, spikes must be of the needle variety.

Each athlete is issued with a registration number, age group number (age patch) and sponsor’s patch. Athletes must always wear their uniform, this year’s registration number, age group number and sponsor’s patch.
